MAGMA ECONOMICS Example: Guided Cylinder on a DISA Line
- An iron foundry is looking to optimize a guided cylinder on its DISA line in terms of costs.
The gating and risering system used so far was optimized to ensure a short pouring time of approx. 10 seconds.
The quality of all 64 cylinders was flawless, as shown here by the porosity result.
- All results were calculated with MAGMA ECONOMICS
The cost per cylinder was set at € 0.22 with a carbon footprint of 0.37 kg.
- To reach the goal, a new gating and risering system was designed. MAGMASOFT® was used to simulate both feasibility and potential cost savings.
- The simulation not only proves the technological feasibility, but also confirms costs savings of 10 %, despite a 35 % increase in pouring time.
- Thus, the foundry reached its goal.
In addition, the CO2 footprint was reduced by approximately 14 %.
